True Stories
Hello, readers.
I'd like to start of with this question:-
How many of you have dreamt about going to college? Chances are, most of you have, I have too. I've always imagined college as this place where you actually discover yourself, make lifelong friends, learn incredible new things and have the time of your life!
Sound familiar?
Now, for those of you who are in college, here's something for you:-
Do you actually enjoy it there and is it really what movies show it to be?
Some of you may agree that it really is an awesome place and you love it there. But others...not so much.
You may think why or how can someone not like college but I learnt some stuff that goes down beyond all of those friendships and classes.
Here's something that I learnt about a particular college and the treatment of the students there. It was totally unexpected and tells a lot about what the juniors are facing on a daily basis.
Everyone expected that they would form special bonds and have a lot of fun together but what they experienced was completely different!
The juniors were bullied by the seniors and they had no one to got to and complain. Even if they did, there was no action, rather they were bullied ever more. And both girls and boys treated them ridiculously. It was so very bad that they didn't look forward to attending college and wanted to give excuses to stop going there. Now, they're being picked on through social media platforms and it's just not stopping. Sometimes, the juniors too started being mean to other people and now it's become a never-ending cycle.
Sounds horrific, doesn't it? Well, imagine going through all of this every single day for the next 5 years. And I am completely disheartened to know that so many people around me are going through so much and are actually scared to say it all just cause they'll be bullied even more for "being too weak". So, I'm standing up against this.
I've had enough! I don't wanna wake up everyday and read news headlines saying that one more young adult commited suicide because they were bullied. I don't want young girls to starve themselves just so that they can be accepted and young boys trying to act strong by not showing their emotions or making fun of others cause they think that's what makes them manly. Well, news flash, it doesn't! I'm tired of teens having bad childhoods because of unpleasant peers. I'm tired of living under a constant fear that I'm being judged and everything I do will be ridiculed. I'm tired of living in a world where we can be ourselves only if we conform to what the society thinks is right and acceptable. And I'm tired of all these labels being given to us!
So, I'm speaking up! I don't want anyone to kill themselves only cause they aren't the definition of acceptable. I don't want to grow up in a world where friends are made based on their career or stream or how useful they'll be, rather I want to live in a place where friends are made cause being around them genuinely makes you happy and their hearts are the purest you'll ever see.
I don't want to miss out on things only as I'm scared of what people might think. And I don't want to live my whole life under a label!
If anyone reading this is facing the same things, talk to someone, talk to your parents (they will understand), talk to your friend or your sibling or anyone else you trust. And if you know someone who's going through this, please talk to them, help them open up and make them feel good.
Moms and Dads, ask your kids why they can't sleep at night or why they have become so quiet all of a sudden and talk to them about how their life is going and be genuinely interested. Teachers, if you notice something different about your student, talk to them, not as a teacher but as a friend. And if you ever get a call from someone you know well at 2 in the morning, pick it up! Cause you may not know it, but you may be the only light in that person's life and you may stop them from taking wrong decisions.
If you're being bullied, talk about it. Stand up for yourself! As it's the only way to bring about a change!
And if you've ever bullied someone, knowingly or unknowingly, apologize to them! Even if it was long ago, one heartfelt sorry will make all the difference in that person's life.
So, I really wish this helps you in any way and please try to raise awareness about this as it just isn't talked about enough!
I hope you liked this post and pass it on cause if you want change, it HAS to start with you. Also, comment and tell me what you think of it. I'd love to get your opinion.
Take care. Bye!
It's way to good Disha
